San Antonio's South Side to Stone Oak is ringed with cedar privacy fences, and nearly every single-family lot sits on the same expansive clay that swells and shrinks with every wet-dry cycle. That clay heaves fence posts, racks rails, and turns a straight line into a lean faster than most homeowners expect. San Antonio Fence Company has been setting posts right and repairing storm damage across the city since 2015.

Whether your cedar fence is leaning because the post has shifted in clay, a spring storm flattened a run, or a gate has sagged off its hinges, we work from the ground up. We're not a national chain. The same crew that estimates your job does the work, and we propose repair before replacement whenever the fence justifies it. Call us at (830) 266-4023 for a free on-site assessment in ZIP 78205 and the surrounding San Antonio area.

Fence Service in San Antonio (78205)

San Antonio's housing stock is built on a foundation that defines every fence decision. The expansive clay that dominates the South Side and stretches east swells when wet and shrinks when dry, heaving posts and racking fence lines. The caliche and rock on the north side makes post-hole digging a different challenge altogether. Spring hail and straight-line winds flatten whole fence runs. Summer humidity rots untreated wood at the ground line. And every leaning fence we see is a post problem, not a panel problem, because the ground moved, not the boards.

We've been serving San Antonio and the surrounding area since 2015. Our crews are fully insured and bonded, and we hold membership with the American Fence Association. We specialize in wood and privacy fence installation, vinyl and PVC fencing, chain link, aluminum and ornamental iron, gate installation and repair, automatic driveway gates, pool fencing, fence replacement and removal, and honest repair work on storm damage and post failure. When a post has shifted or rotted, we replace it. When a fence is leaning but the posts are sound, we brace it or reset it in concrete. When a gate is dragging or off its hinges, we adjust or replace the hardware and rehang it square.

How a Fence Job Works in San Antonio

Step 1: You call us at (830) 266-4023 or request a free on-site assessment. We come out, walk the line, and talk through what you want. If there's storm damage, we document it and explain what repair or replacement will cost. If you're planning new fence, we measure, discuss material options and local code rules, and give you a straight estimate. We work from your existing survey and install on the line you identify.

Step 2: Before we dig post holes, we confirm that utilities have been located. Texas law requires a free 811 utility locate, and we coordinate that. Once the line is marked and the ground is clear, we set posts in concrete at the right spacing and depth, hang rails and stringers, and install boards or panels. For vinyl, aluminum, or chain link, the process is the same: solid posts, proper spacing, level and plumb, tension-set hardware. For gates, we hang them square, set hinges and latches, and test the swing and latch action. For automatic gates, we install the operator and test the safety sensors.

Step 3: We haul away all debris, sweep the site, and walk through with you. You'll see the work done right, and you'll know what to expect going forward. On cedar fences, that's cleaning and re-staining every two to three years because of the humidity. On vinyl and aluminum, it's minimal maintenance. On chain link, it's occasional tightening of tension bands if the mesh has sagged.

Pricing for fence work in San Antonio depends on material, length, and what the ground requires. Wood privacy fence runs from $27 per linear foot. Vinyl and PVC start at $38 per linear foot. Chain link is the most affordable option at $16 per linear foot. Aluminum and ornamental iron start at $42 per linear foot. Pool fencing runs from $34 per linear foot. Farm and ranch fencing starts at $12 per linear foot. Fence repair jobs start at $450. Post repair and replacement start at $450. Gate installation and repair start at $475. Automatic and driveway gates start at $2,800. Fence replacement and removal jobs start at $2,400. Fence staining and restoration start at $950. Storm damage assessments are free. The actual cost depends on the length of fence, the depth and spacing of posts, whether concrete setting or tamping is required, local code setback and height rules, and whether the job is a repair or a full replacement. Call us at (830) 266-4023 for a free estimate on your specific project.

Why do so many fences in San Antonio lean, and is it the fence or the ground?
It's the ground. San Antonio's expansive clay swells when it rains and shrinks when it dries. That movement heaves fence posts up and down, shifts them sideways, and racks the rails and boards. A fence that was plumb in spring may be visibly leaning by late summer. The boards and rails are usually fine. The post has moved. We reset the post in concrete at the right depth and plumb, and the fence stays straight. If the post has rotted at the ground line from moisture and humidity, we replace it.
My fence was damaged in a spring storm. How do we handle insurance and repair costs?
Call us at (830) 266-4023 right away. We'll come out, assess the damage, and document it with photos and a detailed estimate. We can help you gather the information your insurance company will need for a claim. We do honest work and price it fairly. What your insurance covers depends on your policy and deductible. We don't make promises about claim approval, and we don't absorb deductibles. We do the repair work and let you handle the claim.
What's the difference between a tamped post and a concrete-set post, and which should I choose?
A tamped post is set in the ground and packed tight with soil. It's faster and cheaper. A concrete-set post is set in a concrete collar that goes several inches below the frost line. Concrete holds the post rigid and keeps moisture from wicking up from the ground. In San Antonio's clay, concrete setting is the better choice because it resists the heave and shift that clay causes. Tamped posts will eventually lean. We recommend concrete setting for all permanent fence in our area.
Do I need a permit to build a fence in San Antonio, and are there height or setback rules?
Permit rules vary by jurisdiction in the San Antonio area. Some neighborhoods and HOAs have their own architectural standards that govern fence height, material, color, and setback from the property line. Corner-visibility rules are set by the city or county. We recommend you check with the local building department and your HOA (if you have one) before you order materials. We work from your existing survey and install on the line you identify. We don't determine property lines or interpret surveys. A licensed land surveyor can do that if you need clarity.
My neighbor's tree is hanging over my fence line. What are my options?
In Texas, a tree belongs to the property owner on whose land the trunk stands, even if branches overhang the neighbor's lot. You can trim branches that cross your property line back to the property line, but you can't go onto the neighbor's property to do it. If branches are damaging your fence, you have the right to trim them back. We can do that work. If you want the tree removed or heavily pruned, that's a conversation between you and your neighbor. Many HOAs in San Antonio have rules about tree removal and setback distance from fences, so check your deed restrictions before you act.
Is your crew fully insured for fence work at my San Antonio property?
Yes. We are fully insured and bonded, with general liability and workers' compensation coverage. We're also members of the American Fence Association. When we work on your property, you're protected.
My pool needs a safety fence. What are the local code requirements in San Antonio?
Pool barrier requirements are set by Texas state law and local code. Barriers must be at least four feet tall, with no gaps larger than four inches at the bottom or six inches between vertical members. Gates must be self-closing and self-latching. We install pool fencing to meet local pool barrier codes. Final determination of compliance rests with the local authority having jurisdiction, typically the building department or health department. A pool fence is a barrier, not a substitute for supervision. Call us at (830) 266-4023 to discuss your pool barrier needs.
